Custom frames and Hand Finishing
Many of the mouldings are available in bare wood. These include oak, ash, pine and obeche. This allows us to apply our own finish to make a frame that is both unique and complementary to the artwork.
In our workshop we use the traditional method of watergilding to lay genuine gold leaf on to specially prepared frames. The gold is then colour washed and distressed to give a period look to the frame or left clean for a modern contemporary look. Metal leaf or schlagg leaf is also available in gold and silver, this again is toned and is an economical alternative to gold or silver. Other finishes include staining, French polishing and painting. All of these finishes can be blended to give the picture frame character and a uniqueness. We are, of course, available to help you chose a profile and finish to suite your image.
